BRUNSWICK — The Bowdoin College women’s volleyball team was honored with three All- New England Small College Athletic Conference recipients in awards announced by the league on Wednesday.

First- year setter Kate Kiser was recognized as the NESCAC Rookie of the Year, while sophomore outside hitter Caroline Flaharty was named First Team All-NESCAC. Kiser and junior libero Lisa Sheldon were named to the NESCAC’s Second Team.

Bowdoin tied Wesleyan for the league lead with three All- NESCAC selections.

For the second consecutive season, a Polar Bear was named NESCAC Rookie of the Year as Kiser burst onto the scene with a phenomenal rookie campaign. Kiser sparked the Bowdoin offense and led the NESCAC in assists per set (10.55), totaling 960 on the season. She is the second Bowdoin NESCAC Rookie of the Year, joining Flaharty last fall.

Flaharty was promoted to First Team All-NESCAC following another outstanding campaign that saw her rank second in the league at 3.44 kills/ set, while recording a phenomenal

3.79 kills/set against NESCAC opponents and averaging 2.95 digs/set as well. Her 639 kills are tied for the most-ever by a Bowdoin player in their first two seasons (Gillian Page, 2006-07).

Sheldon captured her first All-Conference honor after debuting as Bowdoin’s primary libero this fall. Sheldon played virtually every set this season, totaling 6.26 digs/set and 582 total digs, both tops in the conference. She surpassed the 1,000-dig mark for her career in the NESCAC semifinal against Wesleyan, and her 582 digs this fall were third in program history and the most ever by a Polar Bear not named Katie Doherty.

Bowdoin finished its season with a record of 15-10, advancing to the NESCAC semifinals.
