Throughout the Midcoast, communities are taking time to honor those who served our country, recognizing the sacrifices they made in the name of freedom. The following are some of the events taking place around the region.

Bath

The Don Campbell Band Patriotic Concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Chocolate Church Arts Center at 804 Washington St., Bath.

Special complimentary tickets are available for veterans and their guests; these tickets — two per veteran — are bring distributed through partnership with American Legion Smith-Tobey Post 21 in Bath, Cory E. Garver American Legion Post 202 in Topsham, American Legion George T. Files Post 20 in Brunswick and Veterans Resource Center in Brunswick. General admission tickets are $15 in advance and $18 at the door.

Brunswick

A Veterans Day ceremony will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Midcoast Regional Redevelopment Authority. There will be honorable service awards made to veterans and guest speakers. A representative from Maine Veterans Service will attend.

An event will also take place at 11 a.m. on Park Row. To commemorate Veterans Day, Brunswick Downtown Association volunteers have arranged for a military color guard to lead the pre-race bed parade. The Brunswick American Legion Post 20 will participate in the bed parade and distribute remembrance poppies before and after the race.

Freeport

The second annual Veterans Day Concert, sponsored by American Legion Post 83, will take place at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Parish Church. Performances will be by the Greater Freeport Community Chorus, the Volunteers Jazz Band and Maddie Leslie, the 2016 Miss Maine Outstanding Teen.

Lisbon

American Legion Post 158 will serve free chili all day to veterans and their families at the Legion hall at 10 Webster St. The post is open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.

Richmond

The annual Veterans Day parade will start at Richmond High School at 11 a.m. and is a rain or shine event.

The parade will travel down Main Street and back to the school; all participants should be at the high school by 10:30 a.m. Afterward — for parade participants only — there will be a light snack offered at the American Legion Post 132 hall on Carding Machine Road.

Southard House Museum will host a free Veterans Day open house on Saturday. The third annual Gallery of Heroes will be on display after the parade, from approximately 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. The display will feature photos of area veterans, Civil War through present-day. Visitors are invited to tour other historical exhibits throughout the Victorian and carriage houses. The museum is located at 75 Main St.
