PORTLAND — The Environmental Health Strategy Center will recognized several Midcoast legislators at its 2017 Celebration for Our Healthy Future ceremony Dec. 1 in Portland.

Linda Baker of Topsham and Therese Flaherty of Yarmouth are receiving Grassroots Leadership Awards, for their advocating a ban on toxic flame retardants, on behalf of firefighters’ families like theirs. Winners of this leadership award have helped win support for policy and change by showing decision-makers how their actions can have an impact on the health of individuals, families, and communities.

Rep. Walter A. Kumiega III, D-Deer Isle, Rep. Jeff Pierce, R-Dresden, and Rep. Ralph Tucker, D-Brunswick, are receiving Legislative Leadership Awards for their staunch leadership on phasing out toxic flame retardants.
