A 7-year-old boy from Biddeford whose request for Halloween cards drew national attention has died.

Brock Chadwick had been battling an aggressive form of brain cancer for the last nine months.

His mother, Brittney Horton, posted on Facebook that he died early Sunday morning.

“I am so, so sorry I couldn’t save you from this Brock,” she wrote. “You were an angel walking amongst us this entire time. Although I want you home to be with me forever and always, I know you’re no longer hurting.”

In October, as he was in and out of chemotherapy and other treatment, Chadwick requested Halloween cards for his favorite holiday, which his family dubbed, “Brocktober.” Almost immediately, cards and packages began arriving from all over the world. Classmates of Chadwick’s at Biddeford Primary School also raised $10,000 to help his family with medical expenses.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by a younger sister and his maternal grandparents, Melanie and Clay Rocker, with whom he lived.
