Eugene Gomes Sr. (Gene) passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, November 18th from terminal illness, at Gosnell Hospice in Scarborough, he was 60 years old.

Gene was born, a middle child of 7, May 17th, 1957 at Bath Memorial Hospital to Juanita (Richardson) Gomes and Truman Gomes.

He attended Phippsburg and Bath schools, but left early to go to work, then began an interesting career in many trades. From fishing to trap building, cutting fish to cutting trees, and processing fish to building houses. He married in 1978 to Tina Ventry and started a family. They divorced in 1989, he never remarried.

Gene had countless hobbies and interests. You could find him all summer in his many gardens, where you’d be sent home with plenty to eat. He loved to educate, especially on history, politics, music and fishing. He liked to listen to talk radio, ride his horses and be amongst nature. Gene loved guns, hunting and bird watching. He was also great with languages and geography.

We will miss his witty sense of humor, laid back personality and heart of gold.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Duane, Truman, and Charles, his sister Madeline, and his parents Juanita and Truman.

Gene is survived by, his sisters: Belinda Gomes, her son, Daniel Watson and her life partner, Todd Watson, Carrie Gomes and her life partner Tommy Gilliam. His children: Eugene Gomes Jr., Amy Gilliam, her husband, Dana and their kids, Joey Gomes and Savannah LeClerc.

There will be a celebration of life at the Sportsman’s Club (272 Main Road, Phippsburg) on December 10th, 2017 @ 1p.m.
