OLD ORCHARD BEACH — The town will vote Tuesday whether to approve a contract that would allow The Surge to play at The Ballpark for another year.

The OOB Surge, founded in 2015, is a professional baseball team with the Empire Baseball League.

The Surge has used The Ballpark, a town facility off E. Emerson Cummings Boulevard at 7 Ballpark Way, as its home base.

The Ballpark Commission voted 4-2 to recommend the town enter into a contract with The Surge for the 2018 season, according to town documents.

The Town Council will vote on the proposal at its Tuesday meeting at 6:30 p.m. at Town Hall.

The proposed schedule for the 2018 season has a 25 percent reduction of games from the 2017 season, with 30 games scheduled instead of 40, according to town officials. Though the number of games has been reduced, the proposed agreement increases the per game charge by 9 percent.

Under the proposal, the user fee for The Ballpark for the 2018 season will be $18,000.

Under the terms of the proposal, the season would be set in collaboration with the ballpark operations manager and approved by the Ballpark Commission.

The proposal states that the town would agree to pay The Surge 20 percent of net profits from food and non-alcoholic beverage concession sales during Surge games.

Under the terms of the proposal, the use of The Ballpark by The Surge will not be exclusive.

The Ballpark is also used for collegiate games, local men’s league games and youth games, as well as concerts and festivals.
