BOOTHBAY (AP) — Hundreds of people were disappointed over the weekend after a car accident shut down power to a popular holiday display of Christmas lights in a Maine community.

The blackout was caused by a car striking a utility pole Sunday night, knocking out power to the Gardens Aglow display in Boothbay. The Portland Press Herald reports visitors were then told the display would be closed for the rest of the evening and were escorted off the property.

It is only open from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sundays. A staff member at the Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens says anyone who paid to visit the gardens Sunday will automatically receive a credit card refund.

The vehicle crash shut down the display only 45 minutes after it opened to the public.
