Scarborough senior Owen Garrard, who led the Red Storm to their first Class A football state title last month, was named Monday as Maine’s Gatorade football Player of the Year. Garrard is the first Scarborough player to win the honor. Garrard, a 6-foot, 230-pound running back and linebacker, finished with 1,204 yards and 24 touchdowns and also had two TD receptions. On defense, Garrard finished with 76 tackles, 10 for losses, two sacks and an interception. Garrard is a semifinalist for the Fitzpatrick Trophy, given to the state’s top senior player, and was also chosen by The Forecaster as Scarborough’s Fall Male Athlete of the Year.
