FREEPORT — Nominations for Citizen of the Year are due by the end of the day on Thursday, Dec. 14.

The award is given annually to an individual or community group that has “substantively contributed to the quality of the town, the well-being of citizens, and the reputation of Freeport.”

Last year’s Citizen of the Year was George Denney, former CEO of Cole Haan.

Candidates will be reviewed by the Special Projects Committee and an award recipient will be recommended to the Town Council.

The council will honor the recipient at a public ceremony. The recipient’s name will be displayed on another plaque in Town Hall.

Nomination forms are available at the town clerk’s office, the town manager’s office, the library, and on the town website.
