BIDDEFORD — Call it nostalgia, or call it a familiarity with music that continues to hold universal appeal decades later. Whatever you call it, the marriage of oldies tunes and the dance floor are energizing hundreds in Biddeford and helping raise money for a great cause at the same time.

According to organizer Bruce Martin, friends got together and put on the 13th Rock & Roll Oldies dance on Oct. 14 at the Eagle’s Hall in Biddeford.

“The dance benefited the Ronald McDonald House of Portland. The event was sold out again with 279 tickets sold,” Martin said. “This time we had to refuse 97 people. So, we are now doing two per year.”

He said that the October dance raised $7,850 for Ronald McDonald House and since their inception, the dances have raised more than $45,265 for Ronald McDonald House, which offers shleter to families while children are being treated in the hospital.

He said dance organizers would like to thank the following businesses and people who donated to the event including George’s Sand.; All Day Breakfast; Hannaford’s; Lucky Loggers; Bentley’s; LaFlamme’s Lobster; Seafood Center; TJ’s Pizza; Dairy Quen (Biddefor); Ray’s Market.; Kerrymen Pub; Sea Salt Lobster; Federal Jacks; Maine Diner; Saco/Biddeford Savings Bank and the Eagle’s Organization.

Martin thanked all of the businesses contributing a total of 102 door prizes.

“The Eagle’s Hall has already been booked for the next dance from 7 p.m. to midnight March 24, 2018,” Martin said. “It will feature rock n’ roll from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, 80’s with videos provided by OLDIES ‘R’ US.”

Tickets are $10 per person and sell out in about two weeks.
