ST. AUGUSTIN, P.Q. CANADA — The Labonté, Girard, Fortin and Clément families regret to announce the death of Mr. Robert H. Labonté, husband of the late Marie Luce Girard.

He died at the Jardins du Haut-Saint-Laurent on Dec. 14, 2017, at the age of 103, after a long life devoted to the happiness of others. He went to find the great love of his life, his sweet Luce, who had waited patiently for more than six years.

Robert was one of the 10 children of Albert and Julia (Morin) Labonté. He worked as a dairy farmer for many years and was also employed at Deering Lumber. He married Marie Luce Girard on Sept. 5, 1955 at St. Urbain Church in St. Urbain, P.Q.

In his retirement he was a volunteer with the Meals on Wheels Program and had been honored by the Journal Tribune for his contribution to the program. He and Luce would visit several nursing homes, bringing cheer to the residents, many of whom were younger than they.

In 2008 they moved to Canada to be near Luce’s family.

He is survived by many nephews and nieces in the United States and Canada, grand nephews and grand nieces, and many other relatives and friends.

Dominique and Andrée would like to extend warm thanks to all the staff of the Jardins du Haut-Saint-Laurent for all the care lavished on Mr. Labonté with great dedication, respect and affection, over more than nine years.
