OLD ORCHARD BEACH — Looking for something the whole family can enjoy on New Year’s Eve?

Head down to downtown Old Orchard Beach for Last Blast, a New Year’s Eve Beach party hosted by local community group OOB365.

The festivities start at 4:30 pm on Dec. 31. with a bonfire at the beach near the town square. There will be marshmallow roasting pits, music with DJ Joeyoke, and hot chocolate.  A fireworks display will begin at 7 p.m.

“This is always such a fun event for the entire family,” said Assistant Town Manager Louise Reid, who announced the event at Tuesday night’s town council meeting.

“The thing I get the kick out of the most is the bonfire. It’s not just an ordinary bonfire,” said community member Jerome Begert who spoke at the public input session after Tuesday’s meeting.

Members of the public are invited to bring down their Christmas trees to stoke the fire.

“They put Christmas tree after Christmas tree on top of the bonfire, and the fragrance is absolutely- I don’t have an adjective for it, it’s awesome,” said Begert.
