BIDDEFORD — It went to overtime, but Biddeford High ended a boys’ basketball drought against its biggest rival Tuesday night, defeating Thornton Academy 56-53 in an SMAA game at Tiger Gym.

It was the first time the Tigers (5-2) had beaten the Trojans (4-3) since the 2005-06 season. Thornton now plays in Class AA and Biddeford in Class A.

The Tigers went 5 of 6 from the line in overtime and 15 of 18 for the game.

DeSean Cromwell scored 12 of his team-leading 14 points in the second half and overtime for Biddeford. Jerome Criado had 12 points, Carter Edgerton added 12, including 6 of 6 from the line, and Cody Saucier chipped in with 11.

Payton Jones led Thornton with 17 points. Will Chapman contributed 10.

GORHAM 65, CHEVERUS 53: Nick Strout and Tom Nelson each scored nine of their 13 points in the second quarter as the Rams (4-4) opened a 40-24 halftime lead and defeated the Stags (3-6) at Gorham.

Jordan Bretton and Ryan Reno also scored 13 for Gorham.

Owen Burke had a game-high 14 points for Cheverus.

PORTLAND 82, SANFORD 54: Griffin Foley scored 14 of his 17 points in the first half to lead four players in double figures for the Bulldogs (8-0) against the Spartans (1-7) at Sanford.

Emmanuel Yugu hit three 3-pointers and had 19 points to lead Portland, which used a 22-8 run in the third quarter to open a 66-40 lead. Treyvonnte Ballew and Terion Moss each added 17 points.

Leyton Bickford led Sanford with 22 points.

FALMOUTH 46, WESTBROOK 38: Nick Hester scored 12 points, grabbed 10 rebounds and blocked five shots to lead the Yachtsmen (5-5) over the Blue Blazes (4-4) at Westbrook.

Alex Marcotte scored 14 points, and Jack Bryant added 10 points and five assists for Falmouth.

Zac Manoogian scored 20 points for Westbrook.

FRYEBURG ACADEMY 42, GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 34: Tucker Buzzell scored 13 points for the Raiders (3-5), who overcame a 29-27 deficit with a 15-5 run in the fourth quarter and defeated the Patriots (5-3) at Fryeburg.

Scott Parker had nine points for Fryeburg.

John Martin scored nine points for Gray-New Gloucester, which was limited to five free throws in the final period.

NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 50, PINE TREE ACADEMY 32: Te’Andre King scored 34 points, including 20 in the second half as the Panthers (3-6) downed the Breakers (3-5) at Freeport.

Jared Tamaleaa scored a team-high 10 points for Pine Tree, which fell behind 24-11 at halftime.

King added 14 rebounds for NYA.

CAPE ELIZABETH 48, YARMOUTH 44: Finn Bowe had 13 points, eight rebounds and four assists for the Capers (7-1), who defeated the Clippers (6-3) at Cape Elizabeth.

Ashanti Haywood had 13 points for Yarmouth, which led 24-22 at halftime. The score was 32-32 through three quarters.

Tanner Carpenter had eight of his 11 points in the second half for Cape Elizabeth, and Andrew Hartel finished with 12 points and seven rebounds.

BRUNSWICK 66, LINCOLN ACADEMY 42: Colby Bucknam scored 18 of his 20 points in the second half as the Dragons (6-3) pulled away after trailing by two at halftime and defeated the Eagles (0-8) at Brunswick.

FREEPORT 83, POLAND 42: The Falcons (5-2) opened a 50-18 halftime lead and finished with 13 3-pointers to down the Knights (0-6) at Freeport.

Ethan Sclar led Freeport with 13 points. Kaleb Barrett added 11.

Peter Bolduc III scored eight points for Poland.

CONY 62, MEDOMAK VALLEY 52: Jordan Roddy scored six of his 10 points in the fourth quarter as the Rams (5-4) used a 19-15 run to pull away from the Panthers (4-4) at Waldoboro.

Simon McCormick had a pair of 3-pointers and 16 points for Cony. Ian Bowers tossed in 11 points.

Chris Bowman scored 21 points and Alec Coughlin added 10 for Medomak.

KENNEBUNK 61, MARSHWOOD 57: Kyle Pasieniuk and Max Murray combined for 14 of the 18 points for the Rams (6-2) in the fourth quarter points as they overcame a 48-43 deficit to down the Hawks (2-7) at Kennebunk.

Murray finished with a game-leading 23 points, Pasieniuk added 12 and Cam Lovejoy chipped in 11.

Brandon Libby led Marshwood with 21 points. Sam Aiguier and Cullen Casey each tossed in nine.

SCARBOROUGH 58, DEERING 53: Brian Austin hit a key 3-pointer in overtime to help the Red Storm (7-2) defeat the Rams (5-4) at Portland.

Nick Fiorello scored 19 of his game-high 23 points in the first half as Scarborough took a 32-26 lead.

Ben Onek had all of his six points in the third quarter as Deering used a 16-7 advantage to take a 42-39 edge.

The Red Storm held a two-point lead with under a minute left when Junior Butera put in an offensive rebound to make it 48-48 heading to to overtime.

Ricky Despacho led Deering with 20 points.

LAKE REGION 50, WELLS 43: The Lakers (4-5), down 30-28 through three quarters, used a 22-13 run in the fourth to defeat the Warriors (5-3) at Naples.

Tristen Chaine led Lake Region with 17 points, hitting seven free throws in the fourth quarter.

Matt Sherburne scored 14 points for Wells.

HAMPDEN ACADEMY 77, MESSALONSKEE 54: Ian McIntyre scored 23 points and Corey Winch added 21 as the Broncos (9-1) rolled past Messalonskee (4-4) at Oakland.

YORK 3, GORHAM 1: Jake Nelson, Jake Martin and Andrew Bertolini scored to lead the Wildcats (5-2) over the Rams (1-5) at Dover, New Hampshire.

Tyler Weeks of Gorham scored with 9:39 remaining.

Keenan Gamache made 11 saves for York. Garrett Babineau stopped 32 shots for Gorham.
