It has always amazed me how the weather drives the economy, especially the oil industry. It is not that there is a shortage – it is all about the demand for the product. Because of the season, I have seen the price of heating oil go up 50 cents during the past few weeks.

In October, the price of wood pellets was $209 per ton. In the recent period of frigid weather, the price was $259 per ton. I see no better explanation for the rise in prices than greed and taking advantage of a bad situation.
