I am writing to you about a tasteless joke that your newspaper printed Dec. 23: the editorial cartoon by Greg Kearney on Page A6, depicting a dog owner talking about the dangerous Winslow pit bulls that were allegedly smuggled to New Jersey, and their companion replying, “Isn’t being exiled to New Jersey punishment enough?”

We former New Jersey people are tired of the constant bashing of our state. A survey that regularly tracks New Jersey residents asked them where they would rather live. Sixty-seven percent said, “Nowhere but New Jersey!”

I could show Mr. Kearney the beautiful parts of the state and change his mind.

I do hope, in the future, you will reconsider publishing this rubbish. I like Maine, but the winters here are brutal and the beaches are horrible. So, let’s allow each state to have its own fine points.
