A Waterville man was sentenced to 10 years in prison Thursday for possessing child pornography, according to U.S. Attorney Halsey B. Frank.

Darin Doe, 41, was also ordered to undergo 10 years of supervised release and to pay $5,000 in restitution, Frank in a news release.

Doe, who was sentenced in Bangor, pleaded guilty to the charges in July.

According to court records, Doe possessed over 7,000 computer files depicting images of child pornography. Many of the images, which he downloaded from the internet, depicted the sexual exploitation of prepubescent girls under the age of 12.

He was subject to a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years because he was convicted in 2002 of receiving child pornography.
