He was born April 27, 1935 in Westbrook, a son of Alfred O. and Beatrice C. (Doucette) Dame and grew up in Westbrook with his five sisters and two brothers. He attended Westbrook, Deering, and Gorham schools.
Mr. Dame served in the U.S. Army 1954-1956 and the U.S. Air Force 1958-1976, retiring as a Master Sergeant. He was then employed with West Point Stevens in Biddeford for over 18 years as Manager of Computer Operations retiring in 1994.
James was an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching all college and professional sports, especially following the New England teams. He enjoyed spending time on his computer connecting with old and new friends throughout the US and beyond.
Surviving are his wife Claire Dame of Biddeford; a son, Stephen A. Dame and his wife Debra of Fort Fairfield; a daughter, Carmen Gawronski and her husband Robert of Saco; a brother, Leonard Tiedwell of Westbrook; a sister, Genie Tiedwell of Cumberland; five grandchildren Alexandria and Stephanie Dame, Samantha Ruiz, and Jennifer and Robert Gawronski; two great-grandchildren Alcides and Temperance Ruiz; five nieces and nine nephews.
Predeceased are his sisters June Arey, Fay Camire, Joyce Gallant, and Anna Gilman and his brother George Tiedwell.
Visiting hours will be from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018 at Hope Memorial Chapel, 480 Elm St., Biddeford, ME. Burial will be in the spring in Arlington National Cemetery.
