I’m writing today to raise awareness of human trafficking, which is prevalent in our state and nation. Numerous individuals are being held captive for slave labor, sex, drug proliferation and other problematic purposes.
Human trafficking is a crime that is being perpetrated on our young people, especially women and girls. Of great concern is the number of teens being trafficked in Maine and across various states.
There is a great need for funding for a place for teens to be healed from the harm caused by being trafficked. In particular, a teen program and center are needed.
Funding for law enforcement, recovery teams and places to heal is facing rejection in our Maine Legislature because of budgetary constraints.
Please reach out to our legislative representatives to gain funding to facilitate an effective response to human trafficking.
