I am disappointed in Sen. Susan Collins – once again.

Sen. Collins is too experienced and politically savvy to know or believe that before making a decision on whether or not to fire special counsel Robert Mueller, President Trump sought legal counsel. It is clear from all accounts that the president decided to fire Mr. Mueller and took steps to have him fired – not by the president himself, but by White House counsel Donald McGahn – and backed away only when the White House counsel threatened to resign.

For Sen. Collins to praise the president for doing what “he should have done, which is talk to his lawyer” (her nationally televised comments suggest that the president sought legal advice before deciding to fire Mr. Mueller) is simply wrong, disingenuous, misleading and irresponsible.

Just when this country needs people to speak truth to power, Sen. Collins has failed to be honest with the nation and the people of Maine.
