ORONO — Sami Tavernier scored with 1:30 left in overtime Saturday night to give Merrimack a 3-2 victory against Maine in a Hockey East game at Alfond Arena.

Maine (15-10-4, 9-7-3 Hockey East) trailed 2-1 until Mitchell Fossier tipped in a pass from Patrick Holway at 12:44 of the third period.

Tim Doherty also scored for the Black Bears, at 15:02 of the first period.

Drew Vogler saved 36 shots for Merrimack (8-16-4, 5-12-2). Jeremy Swayman made 33 saves for Maine.

AMHERST 5, COLBY 1: Five players scored for the Mammoths (9-7-4, 6-4-4 NESCAC) against the Mules (10-10, 7-7) at Amherst, Massachusetts.

CASTLETON 5, SOUTHERN MAINE 1: Caleb Fizer had two goals and two assists as the Spartans (7-13-3, 3-12-1 New England Hockey) rolled past the Huskies (3-16-4, 3-10-3) at Gorham.

HAMILTON 5, BOWDOIN 3: Nick Ursitti scored twice in the second period to lead the Continentals (13-6-1, 7-6-1 NESCAC) over the Polar Bears (7-13, 4-10) at Clinton, New York.

UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 6, CURRY 4: Jeff Eppright broke a 4-4 tie with 1:53 left as the Nor’easters (17-4-2, 10-4-2 Commonwealth Coast) beat the Colonels (15-7-1, 9-6-1) at Milton, Massachusetts.

(3) PURDUE 78, RUTGERS 76: Vincent Edwards had 18 points, seven rebounds and eight assists, and Purdue (23-2, 12-0 Big Ten) held off Rutgers (12-13, 2-10) at Piscataway, New Jersey.

ST. JOHN’S 81, (4) DUKE 77: Shamorie Ponds scored 33 points and St. John’s (11-13) stunned Duke (19-4) at New York, snapping an 11-game losing streak and handing the suddenly suspect Blue Devils their second loss in eight days.

(6) XAVIER 96, GEORGETOWN 91: Trevon Bluiett had a season-high 31 points, including a four-point play that tied it late in regulation, and Xavier (21-3, 9-2 Big East) never trailed in overtime, holding on to beat Georgetown (13-9, 3-8) at Cincinnati.

OKLAHOMA STATE 84, (7) KANSAS 79: Kendall Smith scored 24 points, including the clinching free throws in the final seconds, and Oklahoma State (14-9, 4-6 Big 12) held off Kansas (18-5, 6-3) at Lawrence, Kansas.

(8) CINCINNATI 65, CONNECTICUT 57: Jacob Evans III scored 19 points to lead Cincinnati (21-2, 10-0 American Athletic) over UConn (11-12, 4-6) at Storrs, Connecticut, for its 14th straight win.

(10) TEXAS TECH 83, TEXAS CHRISTIAN 71: Jarrett Culver scored 20 points with four 3-pointers, and Texas Tech (19-4, 7-3) beat TCU (16-7, 4-6) at Fort Worth, Texas, for its fourth straight victory and a share of the Big 12 Conference lead.

ST. JOSEPH’S 67, EMMANUEL 56: The Monks (13-8, 8-4 Great Northeast Athletic) opened with an 11-2 run, grabbed a 38-22 halftime lead and handled the Saints (2-19, 1-11) at Standish.

Darian Berry led the Monks with 13 points.

AMHERST 80, BATES 61: The Mammoths (14-7, 5-3 NESCAC) broke open a tie game, closing with a 22-3 run to beat the Bobcats (11-12, 3-6) at Lewiston.

MIDDLEBURY 75, COLBY 56: The sixth-ranked Panthers (18-3, 7-1 NESCAC) use a 32-6 run in the first 11:41 of the second half to put away the Mules (10-12, 1-7) at Middlebury, Vermont.

NICHOLS 116, UNIVERSITY OF NEW ENGLAND 85: The Bison (18-3, 12-2 Commonwealth Coast) used a 72-45 second half to beat the Nor’easters (9-12, 7-7) at Dudley, Massachusetts.
