OLD ORCHARD BEACH  — The Air National Guard Band of the Northeast will be one of the featured performers in a series of concerts in downtown Old Orchard Beach this summer sponsored by local community group OOB365.

The Town Council Tuesday night unanimously approved a special event permit that will allow the band to perform in the town square from 6 to 8 p.m. on June 28.

This will be the first time the band has played in Old Orchard Beach, said OOB365 President Sharri MacDonald.

She said OOB365 started hosting concerts in the town square last summer with three or four concerts, and the group plans to host three more concerts this summer in addition to the Air National Guard Band of the Northeast.

MacDonald said downtown business owners have asked OOB365 for help in trying to get more people to Old Orchard Beach on nights when they are not as busy. She said the concert series is part of an effort to help local business owners and bring people to downtown on slow nights.

The Air National Guard Band of the Northeast is based in Fort Indiantown Gap army post in Annville, Pennsylvania. The band’s region includes 13 states in the northeastern United States, according to the band’s website.

The band consists of 36 members, all National Guard members, and aims to build goodwill and foster patriotism and American spirit to military members and citizens in thousands of municipalities across the northeast, according to the band’s website.
