Boys’ hockey, the final sport to kick off its postseason, now has its playoffs underway. Cheverus finished the regular season 13-4-1 after a 5-0 win over Scarborough last Wednesday and earned the top seed in Class A South. The Stags earned a bye into Saturday’s semifinal round at the Colisee in Lewiston where they will face either No. 4 Portland/Deering (8-8-2) or No. 5 Thornton Academy (11-7). Those teams meet in the quarterfinals Wednesday in Portland (see theforecaster.net for game story). The South Portland/Waynflete/Freeport co-op team posted a 10-7-1 mark after closing with a 4-1 win at Windham/Westbrook. The squad finished sixth in Class A South and went to No. 3 Biddeford for the quarterfinals Tuesday. The winner moved on to Saturday’s semifinals against No. 2 Falmouth. The Class A South Final is Tuesday of next week and the state game is Saturday, March 10. Those games will be played in Lewiston.
