Abilene, a restaurant at Woodfords Corner, will close after this month.

Chef-owners Anna Connolly and Travis Colgan announced in a letter posted on Abilene’s website and Facebook page that “March will be our last month in operation.”

Colgan said in a phone interview that their children are getting to school age, and they wanted to “transform our life to be more compatible with that.”

He said they plan to “take a break for a while and start a new project,” likely in catering, of which they’ve already done some, but don’t have anything specific in the works.

The New American restaurant, which opened three years ago on Deering Avenue in Portland, focused on making food from scratch, including pasta and homemade limoncello.

“We can’t express enough how much we appreciate your business … it is because of you that we were able to spend the past three years living our dream of working for ourselves, cooking the food we love and doing it our way,” the letter said.

The restaurant will be remain open throughout March.
