MaineToday Media, owner of the Portland Press Herald and Maine Sunday Telegram, has hired media sales and marketing veteran Vince Ciampi as group vice president of sales, the company said Thursday.
MaineToday also promoted Courtney Spencer, the Press Herald’s director of local sales, to vice president of sales, the company said.
Ciampi, a Portland native with more than 35 years of sales, marketing and business development experience, will oversee sales of print and digital advertising, as well as events and sponsorships for MaineToday and its sister company Sun Media Group. He started working in his new role Monday.
Sun Media publishes the Lewiston Sun Journal and more than a dozen regional weekly newspapers. MaineToday and Sun Media are both owned by media executive and entrepreneur Reade Brower, a resident of Camden who owns media companies in Maine, New Hampshire and Vermont.
Ciampi served most recently as vice president of automotive for media conglomerate GateHouse Media, overseeing the automotive sales category for over 60 markets. Before joining GateHouse, he ran New England sales operations for automotive classified ad website Cars.com.
MaineToday and Sun Media Publisher and CEO Lisa DeSisto said Ciampi is the first executive to oversee sales operations at both MaineToday and Sun Media. His new role will foster collaboration between the two media organizations, she said.
“To be successful in this rapidly changing media landscape, we need top talent with new ideas and new ways of doing business,” DeSisto said in a news release. “I am thrilled to have Vince join the leadership team to help take our efforts even further.”
