BOSTON — Westbrook’s Nyagoa Bayak and Thornton Academy’s Jason Montano won championships Saturday at the New England Interscholastic Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.

Bayak, a junior, became the first Maine girl to clear 5 feet, 10 inches – indoors or outdoors. Her jump was two inches higher than her state record at the Class A state meet on Feb. 19 and an inch higher than her previous best.

Zoe Dainton of Hingham High in Massachusetts finished second with a jump of 5-7.

Bayak also won the New England title as a freshman with a jump of 5-7. She was fifth last year at 5-3.

Montano won the shot put with a throw of 55-10. Kris Selanis of Athol High in Massachusetts was second with a throw of 54-9 1/2.

Montano, a junior, won the Maine Class A title with a throw of 57-1 1/4. He was fourth at New Englands last year with a throw of 50-9.

Brewer’s Garrett Graham, who won the Class B shot put title, finished sixth with a throw of 52-0 3/4.

Scarborough sophomore Jarett Flaker was third in the 300 meters, finishing in 34.92 – the fastest time ever by a Mainer. He improved on his all-time Maine best time of 35.23 set at the Dartmouth Relays in January.

Flaker also finished seventh in the 55 with a time of 6.57.

Emily Labbe of Scarborough was sixth in the 55 hurdles with a time of 8.58, and Scarborough teammate Molly Murnane was sixth in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.39.

Orono’s Camille Kohtala was fourth in the girls’ long jump at 17-5 1/2. Windham’s Alex Wilkins was fourth in the boys’ long jump with a leap of 22-3.
