Peter Pelletier, 51, was indicted by a York County grand jury in February on the felony charge and four Class D misdemeanors: unlawful sexual contact, unlawful sexual touching, assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
The offenses are alleged to have occurred between March 1 and June 30, 2017.
Pelletier, who now lives in Old Orchard Beach, did not speak during the brief hearing before York County Superior Court Justice Daniel Driscoll; his attorney William Bly entered the pleas on his behalf.
Pelletier was arrested last month and later released from York County Jail on $2,500 bail. His bail conditions include he have no contact with people under 18 years old, that he have no direct or indirect contact with three individuals and that he not use social media.
The case was investigated by Maine State Police, according to the indictment.
Pelletier was employed by Biddeford School Department as a softball coach from 2007 to 2012 and was a volunteer coach in the 2014-2015 school year, said Karen Chasse, the school department’s outreach and development director.
Biddeford Fire Chief Scott Gagne said Pelletier was hired as a member of the department’s call force in 1988 and left the department in March 2014, after 26 years of service.
Court documents in the case have been impounded by a judge.
Pelletier, through his attorney, Bly, declined to speak with reporters after the court hearing on Monday morning.
A dispositional hearing has been set for May 18, with a trial currently set for June 18.
A Class C felony carries a maximum prison term of five years, upon conviction; Class D misdemeanors carry a maximum prison term of one year.
