Here we go again, raising the property taxes in the city of Portland (“Portland superintendent defends $113 million school budget,” March 6). Every year it’s $50, $100, $200 more than the year before.

Do you really think lower-income residents, middle-income residents or seniors get these kinds of raises every year? Do you go without food or medicine, or items you need?

It’s about time Mainers that have been here for years get a break. A lot of them work two and three jobs, including seniors who can’t retire.

You work off your sheets of paper, rearranging the numbers, while people’s lives are in jeopardy. You take no responsibility because you don’t see the people or what it does to them.

You block them out because we are just numbers to you.
