Beginning April 11, the Portland Museum of Art will be free for anyone 21 or younger.

Museum administrators announced the new admission policy in an email Monday afternoon, and attributed the change to “the vision and generosity” of donor Susie Konkel, a philanthropist and youth advocate.

The museum now is free to children 14 and younger.

All visitors 21 and younger will receive free admission. If they sign up for the Susie Konkel Pass, they also will be able to attend free film screenings and receive other benefits.

“I’m honored to work with the staff at the PMA to ensure that every child in the Maine community … can feel the joy and wonder that comes from experiencing magnificent works of art,” Konkel said in a news release.
