Online registration for the 2018 TD Beach to Beacon 10K will take place Thursday for Cape Elizabeth residents and Friday for the general public, under a new format designed to reduce technical problems that created frustration for those trying to secure a spot in the road race last year.

Registration begins at 7 a.m. each day under “controlled queue entry” that notes a user’s position in line and allows up to 20 minutes to fill out pertinent information. Refreshing the page, opening multiple tabs or closing the Internet browser will cause users to lose their place in line.

Entering the queue does not guarantee a bib, but holds a place in line as long as bibs are available. Users may register only one person at a time. Thursday’s registration is limited to the first 600 Cape Elizabeth residents. Another 4,000 bibs are up for grabs Friday morning, after which a lottery system for another 1,950 will begin.

Entry fee for the event is $55. Entering the lottery costs $5. The race is scheduled for Aug. 4 in Cape Elizabeth.
