WATERVILLE — Austin Zakow scored the go-ahead run on a fielder’s choice in the bottom of the sixth inning to help Bowdoin beat Bates 3-1 in a New England Small College Athletic Conference baseball game Friday at Colby College.

Bates (3-7, 0-1 NESCAC) tied the game in the top of the six when Jack Arend doubled home Pat Beaton.

Bowdoin (7-6, 1-0) got an RBI single from Colby Joncas in the second inning and an RBI double from Joe Gentile in the seventh.

Max Vogel-Freedman allowed a run on six hits while striking out five in six innings to earn the win.

ST. JOSEPH’S 4, NICHOLS 3: Joey Murphy and Chris Gerossie hit back-to-back home runs in the top of the second inning, and the Monks (8-5) held on to beat the Bison (5-11) in Northborough, Massachusetts.

Anthony Diprizio drove in Gerossie with a single in the top of the sixth to give St. Joseph’s a 3-1 lead, then scored on a passed ball later in the inning.

Josh Partridge pitched 22/3 scoreless innings of relief to pick up the save.

WISCONSIN-STEVENS POINT 10, COLBY 5: Lucas Luedtke homered and Will Iloncaie went 3 for 3 with two RBI as the Pointers (8-4) defeated the Mules (2-8) in Winter Haven, Florida.

Luedtke’s solo home run in the bottom of the fourth started a four-run inning after Colby had taken a 2-0 lead in the first.

Andrew Russell and Tommy McGee each had three hits for Colby.

CCRI 11, SOUTHERN MAINE CC 0: Asa Nybloom, Jared Grossguth and Zach Odsen homered as Community College of Rhode Island (10-9) beat SMCC (14-9) in seven innings in Warwick, Rhode Island.

TUFTS 3, BOWDOIN 1: Emma Della Volpe tied the game with an RBI double in the fifth inning and Samantha Siciliano followed with a two-run homer as the Jumbos (12-4, 1-0 NESCAC) beat the Polar Bears (13-4, 0-1) in Medford, Massachusetts.

Lauren O’Shea homered in the first inning for Bowdoin.

TRINITY 9, BATES 1: Jenna Thomas doubled home Nicole Towner as part of an eight-run third inning as the Bantams (9-5, 1-0 NESCAC) cruised past the Bobcats (9-4, 0-1) in six innings in Hartford, Connecticut.

Caroline Bass had two hits for Bates, and Mary Collette drove home Andrea Russo with a sacrifice fly in the fifth.

COLBY DROPS DOUBLEHEADER: Natalie Stockman hit a bases-clearing double as part of a five-run second inning to lead Luther to a 17-1 win in five innings in the first game of a doubleheader in Clermont, Florida.

Stockman drove in four runs, while Megan Bonnett and Addy Pender each added three RBI for the Norse (19-1).

Lolo Niemiec singled home Vanessa Warshaw in the bottom of the third for the Mules (1-9).

Luther won 3-0 in Game 2.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

EASTERN CONNECTICUT STATE 17, SOUTHERN MAINE 13: Michelina Pinto scored five goals and Jenna Glynn added three goals, including the go-ahead tally with 11 minutes left, to lead the Warriors (2-5, 1-0 Little East) past the Huskies (3-3, 0-1) in Gorham.

Allison Irish scored five goals and Alex Farley finished with four for USM, which led 7-6 at halftime.

Aliza Jordan added two goals for the Huskies.
