FALMOUTH — A third seat will be open this June on the Town Council after the resignation March 28 of Councilor Andy Jones.

Jones was elected to the council last spring and said he has moved out of Falmouth, for personal reasons. Nomination papers for the vacant seat will be available Thursday, April 5, according to Town Clerk Ellen Planer.

Whoever replaces Jones on the council will serve the remainder of his term, which runs through early June of 2020, Planer said.

The other two seats on the council up for election this year belong to Councilor Karen Farber, who is term-limited from running again, and Vice Chairman Ned Kitchel.

During a special meeting Wednesday, April 4, the Town Council is scheduled to vote on a resolution that will declare Jones’ seat officially vacant.

The municipal election will be held June 12 and nomination papers must be returned to Planer’s office by the end of the day April 17.

Jones said his last council meeting was March 26, and because he’s moved back to his hometown of Eustis he’s no longer eligible to serve.

Although Jones was on the council for less than a year, he said it was “a pleasure and an honor to serve” and he highly regards the dedication and abilities of the other councilors.

He called the town government a “very professional organization” and said he ran for a seat on the council last year because he had “good ideas to share.”

Jones said he would encourage anyone to run for the council who “cares about the town of Falmouth and wants to have input on the future of the town.”
