Shanna Crofton is going from leading Brunswick High School to coordinating the district’s curriculum.

Superintendent Paul Perzanoski announced in a March 30 letter that after three years in the position, Crofton is stepping down, due to significant changes in her life and the birth of her second child.

Perzanoski said Crofton will take on the role of curriculum coordinator in the central office on Sept. 1. This will cut down on the number of night meetings and events she must attend.

“We are more than pleased that we can keep her skills and contributions in the district,” Perzanoski wrote, “and look forward to her enhancing our professional development plans, curriculum revision, assessment oversight, and mandate compliance.”

He will assemble a principal search committee, which will include BHS staff, school board members and community members.

Crofton has degrees from the School for International Training of Brattleboro, Vermont, and University of New England in Biddeford. She earned her undergraduate degree from Bowdoin College in 2001.

Having served as BHS principal since July 2014, Crofton also has worked as an administrator at schools in Connecticut, Ontario and Switzerland. She was working at Oberoi International School in Mumbai, India, before coming to Brunswick.

Crofton told The Times Record just after starting at Brunswick High School that she liked that it has “a good mix of students” with different backgrounds and interests.

“The school has very, very strong programs that meet the needs of different students,” she said.

Prior to Crofton, the Brunswick High School principal position had been filled by interim Principal Peter Dawson and acting Principal Donna Borowick. Borowick had taken the job following the resignation of Art Abelmann from the position in May 2013, after less than a year on the job.
