One of our highest priorities (myself and my husband) is support of education, at all levels, for our community. We would much rather pay the minimal increase in taxes required to maintain and improve our schools’ quality than to see the cuts and consolidation that might be required without this increase.

We are retired, so the taxes matter to us; however, as a former educator, I am very proud of Portland’s support of an increasingly diverse school population, of the caliber of our teachers and of the achievements of our schools, and I have a strong commitment to seeing them continue to move forward. I am shocked to learn that, according to state data, Portland spends less per student than most of the surrounding suburbs.

I strongly urge you to support Superintendent Xavier Botana’s proposed budget.
