A Lincoln County sheriff’s deputy may have saved the life of a Whitefield man who apparently overdosed on opiates.

Authorities were notified by a Whitefield woman Monday morning that her male friend had accidentally overdosed on opiates, Lt. Michael Murphy said in a statement.

Deputy Brian Collamore, who was the first to arrive at the home in Whitefield, noticed a 26-year-old man lying on the floor with evidence of IV drug use near him. Collamore administered naloxone – also known by the trade name Narcan – several times and was able to revive the victim.

A short time later, ambulance crews arrived and transported the man to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta, where he is expected to make a full recovery.

The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information concerning the overdose or the drugs that were used is urged to contact Detective Terry Michaud at 882-7332.
