WASHINGTON — Michael Conforto came off the disabled list to hit a tiebreaking, two-run homer off Stephen Strasburg, Yoenis Cespedes also went deep and Jay Bruce tacked on a grand slam Thursday, leading the New York Mets to a 8-2 victory against Washington in the Nationals’ home opener.

Jacob deGrom (2-0) wiggled out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam to finish a six-inning outing with a flourish. After walking Bryce Harper to fill the bases, deGrom got Ryan Zimmerman to fly to shallow right and Howie Kendrick to line to shortstop before Trea Turner looked at a 94 mph fastball for strike three. Turner argued and was ejected for the first time in the majors.

The Mets improved to an NL East-leading 5-1. The Nationals have lost three straight after a 4-0 start under rookie manager Dave Martinez.

“Everybody’s in a really good spot, confidence-wise,” Mets Manager Mickey Callaway said. “We’re playing the game the right way, and it’s just fun to see.”

PHILLIES 5, MARLINS 0: Manager Gabe Kapler was booed in the home opener when he pulled Nick Pivetta in the sixth inning with a shutout intact, but the move worked when the Philadelphia bullpen held on.

Maikel Franco homered, tripled, singled and drove in four runs to boost the Phillies.

ROCKIES 3, PADRES 1: Ryan McMahon drew a bases-loaded walk off closer Brad Hand to break a scoreless tie in the ninth inning and DJ LeMahieu added a two-run single for Colorado, which took 3 of 4 at San Diego.

Starters Tyler Anderson of the Rockies and rookie Joey Lucchesi of the Padres pitched well but were gone before the game was decided.

PIRATES 5, REDS 2: Gregory Polanco hit a two-run homer during a four-run fifth inning to lift Pittsburgh at home.

Polanco broke a 1-1 tie when he drove a ball into the shrubbery in center field off Homer Bailey (0-2). Polanco also had a tying sacrifice fly in the third inning, giving him three RBI as the Pirates won for the fifth time in six games.

AMERICAN LEAGUE

RANGERS 6, ATHLETICS 3: Martin Perez pitched into the sixth inning of his first start of the season and Texas held on at Oakland, California.

Adrian Beltre singled and doubled to become the all-time hits leader among Latin-born players. Shin-Soo Choo homered for the second consecutive day and Nomar Mazara added two hits to help the Rangers split the four-game series.

TWINS 4, MARINERS 2: Mitch Garver hit a go-ahead home run in the seventh, one inning after Miguel Sano tied the game with a two-run shot as Minnesota won a chilly home opener at Minneapolis.

TIGERS 9, WHITE SOX 7: Niko Goodrum hit a two-run homer and Detroit rallied to win in 10 innings in Chicago’s chilly home opener.

ORIOLES 5, YANKEES 2: Adam Jones hit a go-ahead home run, Andrew Cashner pitched six strong innings and Baltimore won at New York to snap a five-game losing streak.
