In 2016, Maine had 226 reported suicides – a rate of 16.97 suicides per 100,000 residents. The national rate was 13.84 suicides per 100,000 people.

The map below shows the average suicide rate for each state for the five-year period 2012-2016. Rural states like Maine tend to have higher rates of suicide, while more urban states suffer fewer suicides on a per-capita basis. Mouse over the states to view detailed statistics:
