GORHAM — James Sinclair struck out five in seven innings of four-hit ball, Ryan Gaydou added two innings of hitless relief and the University of Southern Maine pulled away to an 8-0 victory over Colby in a nonconference baseball game on Wednesday.

Andrew Olszak was involved in five Southern Maine runs, driving home three on three hits and scoring twice. Dylan Hapworth scored three times and Devin Warren added two RBI.

The Huskies (13-6) took a 2-0 first-inning lead on RBI singles by Warren and Andrew Hillier.

Olszak scored on an error in the fourth before tripling home two runs in the fifth.

Kyle Heath’s run-scoring hit in the seventh and RBI singles by Warren and Olszak in the eighth completed the scoring.

Colby fell to 4-12.

SOFTBALL

MAINE SPLITS WITH UMASS-LOWELL: Kyleigh O’Donnell struck out 12 in a two-hitter to lead the Black Bears (14-16, 5-2) to a 3-0 win in Game 2 of an America East doubleheader against UMass-Lowell (12-18, 6-2) in Orono.

The Black Bears scored three runs in the sixth on Maddie Decker’s sacrifice fly and bunts by Erika Leonard and Alyssa Derrick.

Maine dropped the opener 1-0 in eight innings. Lovina Capria fired a one-hit shutout to outduel Maine’s Annie Kennedy. Sydney Barker doubled home Colleen Frank in the extra inning.

BOWDOIN, USM SPLIT: Caroline Rice lined a two-run double in each of the first two innings to power Bowdoin (19-7) to a 5-2 win in the first game of a doubleheader in Brunswick.

Samantha Roy and Kate Hoadley combined for a four-hitter.

Southern Maine (13-12) won the second game 10-4 behind three hits, three RBI and two runs scored by Brooke Cross.

UNE SPLITS WITH THOMAS: Sydnee Bessler pitched a five-strikeout two-hitter and Sarah Lachappelle launched a two-run homer to carry the Nor’easters (11-9) to a 8-0 five-inning victory over Thomas (11-12) in the first game of a doubleheader at Biddeford.

Katlyn Coulter hit a grand slam and drove in all six runs to give the Terriers a 6-2 victory in the second game.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

USM 14, THOMAS 5: Aliza Jordan scored three times in a span of 1:07 as the Huskies (6-4) opened with an 8-0 run against the Terriers (1-8) in Waterville.

Jordan, Ruth Nadeau and Alex Farley each finished with three goals for USM.

BOWDOIN 12, COLBY 11: Katie Miller capped a four-goal night by breaking an 11-11 tie with 4:16 left in regulation and Bowdoin (9-3, 4-3 NESCAC) beat the Mules (6-5, 2-5) in Waterville.

MEN’S LACROSSE

COLBY 8, BOWDOIN 7: Charlie Lynch scored with five seconds remaining to lift Colby (4-5, 2-5 NESCAC) past the Polar Bears (8-3, 4-3) in Brunswick, ending Bowdoin’s eight-game winning streak.

Tucker Dietrick led the Mules with four goals. Daniel Buckman scored twice for Bowdoin.

UNE 26, EMERSON 5: Alex Zadworny scored five goals and Garett Bozek had four goals and three assists to lead the Nor’easters (6-6) past Emerson (5-6) in Biddeford.

ST. JOSEPH’S 22, REGIS 3: Glenn Dion and Michael Finn scored three goals apiece as the Monks (5-7, 1-3 GNAC) handled Regis (3-7, 1-3) in Standish.
