CAPE ELIZABETH — The Cape Elizabeth Education Foundation is in the midst off a six-week fundraising campaign, in partnership with residents Nancy and Tim Thompson, to support mental health awareness.

According to a news release, family and friends of the Thompsons have committed to match up to $20,000 to support the development of a school mental health program to honor the Thompson’s son, Timmy, who committed suicide in 2004.

The Thompsons announced the effort last month during a community social to celebrate past recipients of The Thompson Award, which was established in 2005 to recognize faculty or staff who go “above and beyond what is expected” and leave lasting and meaningful impacts on Cape Elizabeth students.

The campaign goal is to raise $50,000 by Mother’s Day.
