The driver in a single-car crash in Portland on Sunday morning has died.

Police say 23-year-old Soungha Sok of Westbrook died in the crash that happened at 1:24 a.m. on outer Congress Street near the Portland International Jetport and Brooklawn Memorial Park cemetery.

A 2007 BMW driven by Sok crashed into a stone wall after leaving the road, police said.

Sok and his female passenger, 25-year-old Harrona Sayed, of Portland, were taken to Maine Medical Center in Portland with significant injuries, police said.

He died at the hospital Wednesday morning.

Sayed remains hospitalized with serious but not life-threatening injuries.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

“We’re looking at everything as a possibility,” Lt. Aaron Pepin of the Portland Police Department said. “But at this point, it’s only a couple of days in, so we’re still doing a full investigation of how the events took place.”

Police are asking witnesses to the crash to call them at 874-8532 or 874-8575.
