WESTBROOK — Lexie Matteau hit a two-run single during a four-run second inning Thursday as Biddeford took control in an 8-4 victory against Westbrook in an SMAA softball opener.

Olivia Whittaker of Biddeford went 3 for 5 with a pair of RBI.

Allyson LaPierre had a two-run triple for Westbrook.

SOUTH PORTLAND 16, CHEVERUS/NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 15: Ashlee Aceto had two triples and four RBI, and Chloe Grant added three hits and three RBI for the Red Riots, who had a six-run third inning at South Portland.

Meghan Livingston added two hits, two RBI and four runs for South Portland.

Cheverus, led by Hannah Abbott with three hits and three RBI, totaled nine runs in the fourth and fifth innings to erase a six-run deficit. Freshman Madison Durgin added two hits and two RBI.

BOYS’ LACROSSE

FRYEBURG ACADEMY 17, LAWRENCE 2: Caleb Eklund had five goals and a pair of assists as the Raiders (2-0) rolled past the Bulldogs (0-3) at Fairfield.

Caleb Bowles and Gunnar Gurnis each had four goals and four assists, and Evan Carcciolo and Liam Chisari each added a goal and a pair of assists for Fryeburg.
