BOWLING

The Silver Lake Atom Splitters dominated their semifinal and final matches Sunday to win the Professional Bowlers Association’s Elias Cup for the third time in five years at Bayside Bowl in Portland.

The team of Jesper Svensson, Dick Allen, A.J. Johnson, Tom Daugherty and Chris Barnes won all eight games during the two-day tournament, capped by four straight victories in the finals against the Philadelphia Hitmen.

The only close game in the finals was Game 2 of the first set, when Chris Barnes rolled three strikes in the final frame for the Splitters. Philadelphia’s Matt Sanders, needing three strikes to force a rolloff, got the first two but left the No. 9 pin on his final ball, giving the Splitters a 216-215 win.

Silver Lake easily won the other three games, 248-189, 202-163 and 246-192.

The Splitters advanced to the finals by sweeping the Motown Muscle in the semifinals. The Hitmen, meanwhile, needed three rolloffs to edge the two-time defending champion Dallas Strikers.
