GORHAM — Zach Quintal homered twice and drove in five runs, Andrew Hillier had a home run and four RBI, and the University of Southern Maine baseball team rolled to a 14-6 win over Little East Conference-leading UMass-Boston on Tuesday, ending the Beacons’ 15-game winning streak.

Quintal’s three-run homer in the third inning gave the Huskies (21-8, 7-3) a 4-3 lead. Hillier then hit a three-run homer and Quintal added a two-run shot during a six-run fourth that pushed Southern Maine’s lead to 10-3 over the Beacons (26-6, 9-1), who were ranked fourth in Monday’s ABCA poll.

Jake Dexter and Sam Troiano each had four hits, and Dylan Hapworth and Kyle Heath had three apiece for 24th-ranked Southern Maine, which has won three straight and 14 of 16.

Ben Lambert (2-2) allowed three runs in seven innings while striking out nine to earn the win.

SMCC 11, CMCC 10: Nathaniel Cyr hit a walk-off two-run double to cap a five-run ninth inning and lift Southern Maine CC (26-12, 8-0 YSCC) over Central Maine CC (10-19, 3-5) in South Portland.

Sean Adams and Timothy Greenlaw each hit a run-scoring double before Cyr’s winning hit.

SMCC took a 6-0 lead in the first before falling behind 10-6.

Cyr (1-0) also earned the win on the mound, allowing six hits and three earned runs in five innings of relief.

SOFTBALL

UMASS-LOWELL 5, MAINE 4: Sydney Barker and Maria Moccio hit consecutive home runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the River Hawks (16-22, 10-2 America East) the win over the Black Bears (18-19, 7-3) at Lowell, Massachusetts.

Maine’s Maddie Decker had two hits, including a solo home run and an RBI double. Alyssa Derrick and Meghan Royle also had two hits apiece.

BOWDOIN SWEEPS UNE: The Polar Bears (26-8) exploded for 15 runs in the third inning on the way to a 20-1 win over the University of New England (17-19) in the first game of a doubleheader in Biddeford.

Jordan Gowdy and Allison Rutz each homered in the inning to help Bowdoin build a 16-1 lead. Gowdy finished 4 for 5 with two RBI while Rutz went 3 for 3 with five RBI. Maddie Rouhana also drove in five runs.

Bowdoin took the second game 6-2.

SOUTHERN MAINE, PLYMOUTH STATE SPLIT: Erin Martin had two hits and two RBI to help the Huskies (20-17, 7-5 Little East) to a 3-2 victory over the Panthers (22-12, 10-2) in the second game of a doubleheader at Plymouth, New Hampshire.

Martin hit a go-ahead two-run single in the seventh inning. Alexis Brown pitched a three-hitter with three strikeouts, two walks and one earned run to improve to 8-2.

The Panthers won the opener 3-2 after scoring two in the third to take the lead for good.

THOMAS 7, COLBY 2: Anna Piirainen went 3 for 3 with two RBI as the Terriers (2-24) defeated the visiting Mules (18-13) at Waterville.

Zena Robert hit an RBI single and Lolo Niemiec plated the other run on a sacrifice fly for Colby.

SUFFOLK SWEEPS ST. JOSEPH’S: Payton Sylvester and Delaney Sylvester each had five hits and seven RBI on the day as the Rams (25-7, 18-2 GNAC) collected 17-2 and 11-6 victories over the Monks (14-16, 10-8) at Boston.

Meghan Elliot had two hits for St. Joseph’s in the five-inning first game, and Libby Pomerleau went 2 for 4 with two RBI and two runs scored in the second game.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

UNE 24, WENTWORTH 10: Keara Dwyer scored five goals, and the Nor’easters (7-8, 4-4 Commonwealth Coast) built a 10-1 lead in the first half on nine consecutive goals against the Leopards (6-9, 2-6) at Boston.

Jolena Lampron added four goals, Anna Stowell and Casey each had three and Megan O’Grady and Molly Camelo each finished with two for UNE.

LASELL 16, ST. JOSEPH’S 7: Taylor Yandow scored seven goals, and the Lasers (12-3, 8-2) cruised past the Monks (11-4, 7-3) in a GNAC regular-season finale at Auburndale, Massachusetts.

Lasell scored the first five goals and led 11-4 at halftime.

Samantha Medlin scored twice for St. Joseph’s, and Kara Kelly had a goal and an assist.

PLYMOUTH STATE 19, SOUTHERN MAINE 13: Megan Tingley and Sam Sullivan each scored five goals as the Panthers (11-3, 5-0 LEC) beat the Huskies (9-6, 2-3) in Plymouth, Massachusetts.

Aliza Jordan scored four goals for Southern Maine, while Alex Farley, Colleen Fleming and Megan Violette each added two.

SOUTHERN MAINE 13, PLYMOUTH STATE 8: Tristan Dundas scored five goals, Steve Gilbert broke a 6-6 tie early in the third quarter, and the Huskies (7-7, 4-2 LEC) pulled away from the Panthers (6-9, 3-3) at Gorham.

Dundas, Paul Leonardo and Cam Thibault each scored unanswered goals in the final 4:54 to help the Huskies put it away.

UNE 11, WENTWORTH 6: The Nor’easters (9-8, 4-4 CCC) opened the third quarter with five straight goals to rally from a 4-2 halftime deficit against the Leopards (6-8, 1-7) in Boston.

Garet Bozek had three goals and two assists for UNE, and scored twice in the opening minutes of the fourth to make it 9-5.

Mitch Mullin added three goals.
