CAPE ELIZABETH — Karli Chapin’s goal with less than a second left in overtime lifted Cape Elizabeth to a season-opening 9-8 victory over York in a girls’ lacrosse game Wednesday afternoon.

Chapin took the ball at the elbow with 10 seconds to play and drove around the back of the net. As her teammates cleared out, Chapin rolled around the crease and a fired a shot along the ground for the victory.

LAKE REGION 17, NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 5: Melissa Bonenfant scored six goals, and Lindsey Keenan added three goals and five assists to lead the Lakers (1-1) over the Panthers (0-2) in Naples.

Isabelle Davis-White chipped in with two goals and an assist, and Rachel Shanks also scored twice.

Bella MacMahon notched three goals for NYA.

THORNTON ACADEMY 12, DEERING 5: Noah Edborg netted four goals and CJ LaBreck scored three as the Trojans (2-0) beat the Rams (0-2) in Saco.

Thornton broke away from a 4-4 halftime tie by outscoring the Rams 6-0 in the third quarter. Sam Edborg repeatedly won faceoffs during the surge to keep the Trojans in possession. Tucker Weeks got both of his goals in the third quarter.

Tom Levasseur also scored twice for Thornton, and Nick James scored twice for Deering.

Ean Patry made seven saves for the Trojans. Deering’s Max Morrione stopped 14 shots.

FALMOUTH 14, SCARBOROUGH 4: Tom Fitzgerald fired home seven goals to lead Falmouth (3-0) to a victory over the Red Storm (1-2) in Scarborough.

Nick Farnham added two goals for the Yachtsmen. Marco Manfra scored twice for Scarborough.

MT. ARARAT 8, OAK HILL 6: Zach Cavotte, Alex Bryant and Jake Sargent each had a pair of goals for Mt. Ararat (2-0) in a win over the Raiders (1-1) in Wales.

Sargent also had two assists. Keegan Brown and Owen Kelley also scored, and Logan Jackson made 20 saves.

Xavier Michaud led the Raiders with three goals and an assist. Riley Worth scored two goals and Noah Moring had one.

Oak Hill goalie Brandon Glover made 20 saves.

LAKE REGION 25, ST. DOM’S 5: Nate Bragdon-Clements scored seven goals – all in the first half – as the Lakers (1-1) defeated the Saints (0-1) in Auburn.

The Lakers also got six goals from Caleb Emery, five from Paul Vigna and three from Cameron Lepage.

Will Fletcher and Robbie Dick each had two goals for the Saints.

LINCOLN ACADEMY 15, LAWRENCE 2: Nolan Michael had eight goals and three assists to pace the Eagles (3-0) to a win over the Bulldogs (0-2) at Newcastle.

Nate Simmons added four goals and an assist for Lincoln, which scored the game’s last 13 goals. Liam Cullina had a pair of goals, and Ethan Avantaggio contributed a goal and an assist.

Damon Westhaver made six saves for the Eagles.

BASEBALL

MARANACOOK 3, LEAVITT 2: Avery Beckwith singled home Jackson McPhedran in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Black Bears (3-1) edged the Hornets (1-2) in Readfield.

Winning pitcher Dan Garand allowed two runs on four hits while striking out 10.

Orem Shaw smacked a triple and David Herman hit a double for Leavitt.

WATERVILLE 18, MCI 5: Dan Gaunce had three hits and drove in four runs for the Purple Panthers (3-1) in a five-inning win over the Huskies (0-3) in Pittsfield.

TUESDAY’S BASEBALL

BIDDEFORD 6, GORHAM 4: Evan Paquette hit RBI singles in the second and third innings, and Biddeford (2-0) held on to beat Gorham (1-1) in Gorham.

Logan Magnant had three hits, while Carter Edgerton added two for Biddeford.

Brice Springer pitched a complete game to earn the win.

Ben Nelson doubled and drove in two runs for Gorham.

TUESDAY’S GIRLS’ LACROSSE

BRUNSWICK 10, CONY 5: Beth Labbe scored four goals and Mikayla Aschbrenner made 10 saves as the Dragons (1-1) defeated the Rams (1-1) in Brunswick.

Lauren Coniff, Catherine Silva, Sarah Caron, Kami Lambert and Kiara Henry scored for Cony.
