A 36-year-old woman was taken into custody after a standoff with Bath police on Wednesday afternoon.

Bath Police Chief Michael Field, who did not identify the woman, said officers were called to a home in the 800 block of Middle Street around 1:14 p.m. after receiving a report of a woman possibly with a weapon.

When officers arrived, they interviewed a man who knows the woman. Officers then surrounded the home.

Sgt. Dan Couture tried to negotiate with the woman by phone and from outside the home, encouraging her to surrender.

Just before 4 p.m., nearly three hours after the confrontation started, the woman agreed to come outside. She was taken to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick for an evaluation.

“Police are continuing to investigate the circumstances that occurred before the incident to determine what, if any, charges will be filed,” Field said in a written statement.

Additional information will be made available on Thursday.

During the standoff, Bath police ordered the MidCoast Federal Credit Union to go into lockdown.
