GORHAM — Sam Troiano hit a solo home run to spark a three-run bottom of the seventh as the University of Southern Maine rallied past Wheaton 6-4 Thursday in baseball.

The Huskies (22-8) scored three runs in the second inning with RBI singles from Anthony Degifico and Kyle Heath and a sacrifice fly from Dylan Hapworth.

The Lyons (20-14) went ahead with a pair of runs in the top of the fifth and two more in the seventh.

Jake Dexter and Andrew Hillier each were 2 for 4 for USM.

ST. JOSEPH’S SWEEPS ALBERTUS MAGNUS: In the first game, Ben Gravel hit an RBI single in the seventh and Hunter Richardson scored on two errors in the ninth as the Monks came from behind to edge the Falcons 2-1 at Standish.

Zach Begin gave up five hits and struck out eight over 62/3 innings. Joey Murphy and Will Martin added two hits apiece.

In the second game, Anthony DiPrizio hit a two-run double in the seventh as St. Joseph’s (24-8, 8-1 GNAC) erased a 2-1 deficit to come from behind and edge Albertus Magnus (7-19, 3-8), 3-2.

Gravel hit an RBI double in the second to open the scoring. Matt Demma and Jonathan Marchia combined for seven innings pitched with five strikeouts.

WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

TENNESSEE: Lou Brown is leaving Washington State for Tennessee as a graduate transfer to spend her final season of eligibility with the Volunteers.

Brown, a 6-foot-3 forward from Australia, averaged 6.4 points and 6 rebounds for Washington State this past season. Brown will be eligible to play for Tennessee in 2018-19.

FOOTBALL

PURDUE: Coach Jeff Brohm received a two-year contract extension through 2024.

Brohm was hired in December 2016 and turned the program around in his first season. The Boilermakers went 7-6, won the Old Oaken Bucket for the first time in five years and won the Foster Farms Bowl.

Attendance was up an average of 13,433 a game – the largest increase in the country.
