A 27-year-old man was killed Friday when his ATV collided with a tractor-trailer truck in Poland, according to the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office.

Skylar Lee Huff of Poland was operating a 1985 Honda ATV on private property near the intersection of Bakerstown and North Raymond roads when he crossed into the westbound travel lane of Bakerstown Road and hit the passenger side of a passing truck, the sheriff’s office said.

The 2006 Kenworth tractor-trailer, driven by 54-year-old Craig Day of Cornish, was not loaded at the time. The truck is owned by William A. Day Jr. & Sons Inc. of Porter.

Huff died at the scene, the sheriff’s office said. Day was not injured.

The cause of the crash is under investigation, but authorities say it does not appear alcohol was a contributing factor.

Bakerstown Road was closed to all traffic for about five hours while the crash was investigated. A Maine State Police trooper assisted the sheriff’s office with the reconstruction of the crash. The Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit also responded to the scene, which is standard protocol in crashes involving commercial vehicles.
