A motorcyclist died after the motorcycle the person was riding collided Friday afternoon on Desert Road in Freeport with a truck towing a boat trailer, police said.

Freeport police said the accident happened around 3:15 p.m. on Desert Road near the exit 20 southbound ramp of Interstate 295. The driver of the motorcycle was heading northwest on Desert Road and the truck was pulling onto the road from the highway off-ramp, according to police.

The motorcyclist suffered serious injuries and was transported to Maine Medical Center in Portland, and was later pronounced dead. The occupants of the truck were “shaken” but not injured, police said in a statement.

A crash reconstruction officer from the Sagadahoc County Sherriff’s Office was called to the scene to investigate, along with Freeport police officers. The Desert Road overpass was closed after the accident and remained closed Friday evening while the investigation was taking place.

The drivers of both vehicles will be identified once the motorcyclist’s relatives have been notified, police said.
