A Litchfield woman who police said was missing early Monday morning was located later in the day in Southwest Harbor, where she was driving her car.
Early Monday, Maine State Police announced that the woman, 77-year-old Jacka Beckwith, had failed to show up at a relative’s house in Bangor on Sunday and was later spotted at a store a few hours east of her destination.
Beckwith has memory issues, and police issued a silver alert so that members of the public could help locate her.
Authorities said that she left her home in a red Subaru Legacy around 11 a.m. Sunday and told her husband that she was going to Bangor.
She was spotted early Monday morning in the Washington County town of Baileyville, where she stopped at a convenience store to ask directions to Bangor, according to Maine State Police. Baileyville, east of Bangor, is about a two-hour drive away.
Later on Monday, police found Beckwith driving the car in Southwest Harbor, a community on Mount Desert Island that’s a two-and-a-half hour drive from Baileyvile, police said. She was brought to a hospital for a check-up.
Beckwith suffers from a medical condition, and police say she may have become disoriented.
