There is no such thing as a “safe-injection site” for drug users (a topic on which Portland officials are gathering information). By definition, these injections are actually extremely unsafe.
With the number of heroin and hard-drug deaths spiking around our nation, Maine need not endorse this behavior.
We need to use resources to help loosen the grip of opioids on the people of not only Maine but also the entire U.S. – encouraging the injection of harmful substances is not the way to do that.
