Even though I no longer reside in Portland, I heard that my dear cousin and friend Rubin Segal announced his candidacy for Cumberland County probate judge. I urge that the good souls of Cumberland County vote for him in the June 12 Democratic primary.
Why, you may ask, should you listen to out-of-stater Howard Passman? I’ll tell you why: Because I still love Portland – both its heart and soul.
Rubin was my Munjoy Hill cousin while I grew up on Sherman Street in the Parkside neighborhood.
Why do I tell you where we both grew up? Because, by doing so, we lived close to humanity, and that is where one learns about life on the street – not in the classroom – and you learn to understand people not just by reading a book or in the classroom but by real, live interaction.
